There will be 20 U.S. men's hockey players in attendance at President Donald Trump's State of the Union addre s on Tuesday night as special guests after their gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics. That means that five players won't be there and have instead returned to their NHL teams. Those five are: Jake Guentzel - Tampa Bay Lightning Kyle Connor - Winnipeg Jets Brock Nelson - Colorado Avalanche Jackson LaCombe - Anaheim Ducks Jake Oettinger - Dallas Stars One thing all five of those players have in common: They play on Wednesday night as there are eight NHL games on the schedule in the first game of resumption after the Olympic break. MORE: Connor shared his thoughts with reporters on Tuesday, . "I'm just getting ready," Connor said. "We Vladimir Tarasenko Jersey play on Wednesday. "It's a big second half, so I just wanted to make sure I was ready." Connor's Jets teammate Connor Hellebuyck, after a heroic goaltending performance against Canada in the gold medal game (41 saves), is in D.C. Margo Martin (@MargoMartin47) MORE: The five players not there all have different profe sional incentives for being ready for the second half's resumption. Guentzel and the Lightning are the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference heading into the stretch run. Connor and the Jets have just a 5.5% chance to make the playoffs without a lot of time to make up ground. Nelson is rejoining the Avalanche so he can travel with the team to Utah for Wednesday's game. LaCombe, who didn't play a minute at the Olympics as a defenseman, has to prepare to take on the Oilers and an extra-motivated Connor McDavid on Wednesday. Oettinger and the Stars are already shorthanded from other Olympic injuries, and he'll be back in net as soon as po sible. The State of the Union is scheduled to get underway at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday in the Chamber of the House of Representatives in the U.S. Capitol. More NHL news: Lucas Raymond Jersey
