Axemaul is one of Borderlands 4’s toughest bosses, and winning that fight pays off in more than loot. Players who farm Axemaul not only get rare gear, they also collect Borderlands 4 Cash to buy upgrades and vending machine bonuses. Prepare your elements and your movement, and treat the arena like a pattern to learn.
Phase One — Shred the Armor with Corrosive and Cryo
Start the fight by breaking Axemaul’s heavy plating. Use Corrosive weapons to eat through armor over time, and use Cryo to slow the boss so you can start safe DPS windows. Equip an SMG or fast fire rifle with Corrosive rounds for steady stacking damage. Equip a Cryo gun to freeze or slow Axemaul when it whips in for melee swings. Aim for the legs and plated parts first so the boss opens up sooner.
Keep Moving or You Die
Movement beats raw standing fire in this fight. Axemaul uses wide swings and fast lunges that hit hard at close range. Use dash or evade skills every time the boss winds up. Circle the arena while you reload and pick safe cover when it charges. When Axemaul plants an attack, step out of range and then return for a short burst. The arena gives you places to hide, so use them. If you stand still for too long, you lose a lot of health fast.
Phase Two — Switch to Incendiary When It’s Exposed
When Axemaul loses its armor, switch to fire. Incendiary weapons cause damage over time and make that exposed health drop quickly. Bring a flame shotgun or an incendiary assault rifle with a big magazine. Focus fire on the exposed core while you dodge incoming attacks. Keep moving when you shoot so the boss can’t land a follow-up strike. Use short, high-damage bursts to stack fire on the boss and then back away to avoid its counters.
Second Wind and the Role of the Manglers
Axemaul spawns Manglers during the fight, and those small enemies are important. Keep one or two weak Manglers alive as rescue targets for Second Wind. If you go down, aim at a Mangler to get back up quickly and keep the run alive. The team should mark a Mangler location so downed players know where to revive. Also use any extra drops to buy or craft items with buy Borderlands 4 Cash between runs. Spending that cash on anointment or a temporary boost can make the next attempt much easier.
Loadout Tips and Fight Economy
Bring at least one Corrosive, one Cryo, and one Incendiary weapon into the arena. Pick weapons with large mags or high fire rates to apply elements fast. Choose character perks that boost elemental damage, movement, or survival. Stock ammo and cooling items before the fight so you do not have to search mid-battle.
