Collecting resources is a normal part of playing Helldivers 2, but it becomes much more meaningful once you understand how those resources affect your long-term progression. Helldivers 2 Items can include many useful rewards and pieces of equipment, while Samples have a more specific role in improving your Super Destroyer. Instead of being temporary mission rewards, Ship Modules purchased with Samples provide permanent improvements that remain available in future operations.

The Ship Management Terminal is where this progression happens. The available modules are organized into six sections, and each section has its own purpose. Players working through the upgrade system alongside U4N can benefit from knowing which areas match their preferred loadouts before spending valuable resources. This is especially helpful because the system uses multiple tiers, requiring players to unlock earlier upgrades before reaching later ones.

Pick Upgrades Based On Your Loadout

The Patriotic Administration Center is centered around Support Weapons and Backpacks. One example is the Donation Access License, which can improve ammunition availability when equipment is deployed. If your favorite missions involve heavy use of support weapons, this section deserves attention.

The Orbital Cannon handles Orbital Stratagem improvements. Its upgrades can reduce explosive damage falloff, shorten cooldowns, and add extra salvos to certain heavy barrages. These changes can make orbital attacks more useful when dealing with large groups or difficult targets.

The Hangar improves Eagle Stratagems. Some upgrades reduce Eagle rearm time by 20%, while another provides an additional use for every Eagle weapon bay before rearming becomes necessary. Players who build around frequent Eagle attacks can therefore get a lot of practical value from this section.

The Bridge is more general. Its upgrades include improvements to Hellpod steering, giving players greater control during deployment. This kind of utility may not be as dramatic as increasing ammunition, but it can still make deployment more convenient during difficult operations.

Defensive Tools Get Their Own Upgrades

The Engineering Bay is focused on defensive equipment, Supply Stratagems, and Sentries. Its upgrades can reduce cooldown times or increase the health of defensive equipment. These benefits are particularly useful during missions where the team needs to defend a location or hold an objective against repeated attacks.

The Robotics Workshop goes even further into Sentry improvements. Its modules can increase rotation speed, provide instant deployment, or give Sentries 50% more ammunition. Players who frequently rely on automated defenses can build their progression around these upgrades.

This organization also makes it easier to plan. Rather than trying to unlock every section immediately, think about which equipment appears most often in your own missions. A player who rarely uses Sentries may not need to prioritize the Robotics Workshop, while a Sentry-focused player may see much more value there.

Learn The Sample Tiers

Common Samples are available from Difficulties 1 through 9. They can appear around Points of Interest, major objectives, bug holes, and fabricators. Rare Samples begin appearing from Difficulty 4 and can be found around nests, Automaton outposts, and resource caches.

Super Samples are reserved for Difficulties 7 through 9. Their distinctive spawn location around the "Chicken Drumstick" rock makes them easier to recognize once you know what to look for.

Because the three resources have different availability and storage limits, players should not assume that simply increasing difficulty will solve every progression problem. Searching the map carefully remains important.

Do Not Ignore Storage Limits

Rare and Super Samples have smaller caps, which can cause an unusual progression bottleneck. You may reach the maximum amount of one resource while still needing a large quantity of Common Samples for a later module.

Buying available early-tier upgrades helps prevent resources from sitting unused at their limits. It also gives you permanent improvements sooner rather than leaving your resources untouched while waiting for one expensive later upgrade.

Team coordination matters as well. If every player carries a separate group of Samples, several deaths can leave containers scattered across dangerous areas. Having one designated carrier can make the team's resources easier to track, although the carrier should avoid unnecessary risks.

Use Extraction As A Safe Point

When the squad passes near the extraction pad during a mission, temporarily dropping the Sample container there can be useful. The resources remain at a known location, allowing the team to continue exploring without carrying everything through every dangerous encounter.

This approach is especially helpful on missions where the final objective is far from extraction. If someone dies during the trip back, the squad does not necessarily have to travel across the entire map to recover its accumulated resources.

Build Progress Through Consistent Runs

Ship Modules reward players who think beyond a single mission. Every successful extraction contributes toward upgrades that can improve future operations, whether those improvements involve Eagles, Orbitals, Sentries, Support Weapons, or general utility. Players considering Helldivers 2 Samples should pay attention to their current storage, mission difficulty, and preferred equipment instead of collecting resources without a plan. With consistent extraction and sensible spending, ordinary mission runs gradually become permanent improvements to your Super Destroyer.
