  • Plug the damn extender into an outlet. Just pick a spot somewhere between your router and where your WiFi dies out.

  • Wait for the power light. Mine blinked like it was confused for a good minute before it went solid. Be patient.

  • Grab your phone. Make sure you’ve got the Nighthawk app already installed. If not, App Store / Play Store. Download. Done.

  • Open the app. Log in with your Netgear account (yeah, you need one). If you don’t have it, make one right there.

  • The app will ask what you’re setting up. Pick WiFi Range Extender. Don’t pick router, don’t pick mesh. Just extender.

  • It’ll scan for devices. Took mine a bit, but eventually it popped up. If it doesn’t, you might need to hop onto the extender’s temporary WiFi (look for something like “NETGEAR_EXT”). Password is usually blank unless you changed it.

  • Once the app finds it, it’ll walk you through connecting it to your main WiFi. Pick your network, punch in the WiFi password (the same one your router uses).
