Plywood is one of the most important materials in construction, carpentry, and interior design. Whether you're working on furniture, home interiors, or even projects in industry, knowing the plywood sheet cost can help you budget appropriately and choose a product that meets your needs.

In this article, we will explore what to expect in terms of plywood pricing in 2025, factors that may affect pricing and some tips to help you feel confident in the value you receive.

Understanding Plywood and Its Uses

Plywood is an engineered wood product manufactured by layering multiple plies of thin wood veneer. The individual plies are grouped based on directions of grain (i.e. vertical and horizontal, or alternating). These factors, layered with glue create a strong product that is resistant to warping, but lends itself well to numerous applications. Furniture manufacturing, wall paneling, cabinetry, modular kitchens, partitions, roofing, and even flooring are just a few of the variety of plywood applications.

What Affects the Pricing of Plywood Sheets?

Many elements will ultimately impact the price you pay for plywood sheets. The first is the classification of plywood you purchase. Commercial MR (Moisture Resistant) plywood is the least expensive option, which is commonly used for interior furniture. However, BWR (Boiling Water Resistant) plywood is slightly more expensive if the structural integrity is enhanced with its water-resistant properties, allowing BWR to also be suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. Most durable and least expensive option is BWP or marine plywood as this plywood is designed to last outdoors and/or in highly humid conditions.

The second part that dictates the price of plywood is the thickness of each sheet. Common thicknesses range between 4mm up to 25mm, with 12mm and 18mm being the most prevelant thicknesses used for interior and furniture work in particular. As values in thickness range, the price of plywood sheets progressively increases as there is greater raw material value and it is also more durable than thinner grades of plywood.

Typically, plywood made with hardwood varieties like Gurjan is more expensive. Plywood made with softer wood or using a mixed-core wood type will be cheaper. The strength of the hardwood classifications and longevity of use will make all hardwood thick plywood higher is cost.

Prices of Plywood Sheets in India (2025)

As of now, you've saw with a sheet of standard 8x4 ft for plywood, is something that varies according to the thickness (mm) or the kind of types. For example, a COMMERCIAL MR is usually around 950 to 1,300 for a 12 mm thickness. As for BWR, usually a 12 mm it will be cheaper, 1,200 to 1,800 for the sheet. Marine or BWP will go higher than amount already paid, 1,600 to 2,200 cost per sheet.

Now there are hardwoods, very few left but prices can range around then 2,000 up to 3,000 for the sheet in a 18 mm sheet of Gurjan plywood. Shuttering plywood for concrete for frameworks is usually the cheapest, 900 to 1,400 bucks is what I can expect to pay for that. Depending on the quality or reuse.

Film-faced plywood is used widely for outside or industrial plywood, we can expect 1,500 to 2,500 per sheet.

Just keep in mind, with gross estimates, you may spend more or less based on city, supplier, or thickness or quality brand type of plywood.

Advice for Finding Good Prices on Plywood Sheets

Consider reaching out to a few suppliers to check prices before making a choice in order to get the best value for your project. Don't forget to not only look at the price, but also check for ISI certification or marks of quality. If the project will involve a significant quantity of plywood, don't hesitate to negotiate, as the supplier may very well be willing to accept a lower price when hearing you are making a bulk purchase.

Take the time to decide what grade of plywood you need. For example, purchasing high-grade marine plywood for furniture you are building for use inside with no risk of moisture would not be a smart way to use your resources. On the other hand, although low-grade commercial plywood might save you some money in a project, the chances of having excess build-up of mold on the substrate is significantly higher than with higher grade plywood.

Before making your final decision, always evaluate the sheets (as best you can) before completing the purchase and order of delivery. Look specifically for warping, or unevenness of thickness, or areas of delamination. In this digital day and age, if you are ordering the plywood sheets online, make sure they have reputable return policies, and take time to review the customer ratings for quality of the product.
